DEAR EDITOR,
I feel compelled to respond to the article on page13 of SN, Tuesday, October21, 2008, entitled: “Local Sex Workers, MSM Form Rights Coalition.”
Today’s society is striving to win an impossible battle, that is, to eradicate absolute values. Folks are trying to make right wrong and wrong right; calling entrance exit and exit entrance, and they end up compounding their pain and frustrations, as there are absolute values that neither time nor opinions can eradicate!!
I read of a group of people who are “suffering in silence,” “seeking acceptance,” “yearning… to be respected,” a group of people with “sadness…reflected not only in their voices … but also in their eyes.” I have good news for them!! There is hope!!
I am sure that each member of that group falls into one or more of the following categories: neglected by parents/father; sexually abused (by a relative); rejected or spurned/jilted by a loved one; having financial difficulties; longing for a father’s love.
Many turn to prostitution because of a sense of hopelessness, but there is hope!! It’s not that society has lost respect for you. You have first lost respect for yourself, and no problem is solved by perpetuating the problem. One needs to deal with problems from the root.
There is hope! It is for this very reason that Christ Jesus came into the world…to bring release to those who are held captive by various vices, “to set at liberty them that are bruised…” So, to this hurting group of people I say: the Church does not condone what you are doing, but does not condemn you.
The Church will not be among those pelting you on the streets. We invite you to stop trying to hide the reality and roots of your true pain and accept genuine help. We love you. Feel free to call 226-1091.
