Two motorcycle bandits yesterday made good their escape with close to $1.5M in jewellery stolen from a goldsmith at the Plaisance Market.
Reports are that Tularam Deodat, of Ogle Front, East Coast Demerara, was robbed by the bandits as he was about to set up his stall in the Plaisance Market, at some time around 7:45 hours.
According to a police statement, the goldsmith was attacked by two men, one of whom was armed with a hand gun, and was relieved of a quantity of gold and silver jewellery.
Police report that the victim was putting out his jewellery for sale in a glass case when he was held up by the men, who took away the items, valued at $1.5M, and escaped on a motor cycle.
Deodat made an attempt to pursue the bandits, but stopped after the man with the firearm discharged a round into the air.
Investigations are ongoing.
