Minibus conductor Travolta Peters, 29, is currently a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital nursing several stab wounds.
Peters, of ‘B’ Field Sophia, who sustained three stab wounds to his abdomen, is said to be in stable condition.
Kaieteur News understands that Peters was stabbed on Saturday afternoon while attending a barbecue with his family.
Peters’s reputed wife, Samantha Cornett, said that the stabbing incident stemmed from an encounter the man had with two young ladies on Friday afternoon.
She related that when her husband returned home from work on Friday afternoon, he told her that two girls had travelled with the bus he operates, refused to pay the fare, and just laughed when they exited the bus.
According to her, while at the barbecue the following day, her husband won $200 playing ‘chic chic’.
One of the women who had travelled with him the previous day happened to be at the ‘chic chic’ table and reportedly taunted him by saying, ‘You win $200… that mek a rob you yesterday.’
Peters reportedly responded by telling her that he did not want any problems with her.
Shortly after, a man confronted Peters, telling him not to ‘wrong talk’ to the girl. Peters backed off and went to his bus, but when he returned to his wife’s side, the man attacked him, stabbing him thrice in the region of his stomach before fleeing the scene.
Peters was rushed to the GPHC, where he was treated and subsequently admitted.
Cornett says that she is upset and dissatisfied with the efforts of the police in finding her reputed husband’s attacker.
She added that, up to yesterday afternoon, the police had not visited her husband to see his condition.
Cornett also said that an eyewitness went to the police station three times in an effort to help the police locate the young lady and the man that attacked Peters, but the police did not respond.
The police reportedly told her that they did not have any officers to send.
