DEAR EDITOR,
My NIS is usually available, beginning every first Monday every month. Because so many persons are present, I usually make myself available for payment after the first Monday has passed, because payment can be obtained through the month.
So, on October 7th, I presented myself to obtain my NIS payment. I was surprised when the paymaster showed me that my pay cheque was not in the cheque books.
This person, and another who was seated nearby, said that I must return in another month’s time, then I shall get two months’ payment at once.
To me, it all looks like another glaring robbery going to happen, like when I was dismissed from the bauxite company without any reason given and all my payments and benefits were seized.
I was told that, for three years, I did not work with the bauxite company, so I cannot get any pension from them, or NIS.
But when I presented a payment slip for each of the years for which it was claimed that I did not work with the bauxite company, they decided to pay me my NIS; but all of my benefits and my bauxite company pension were seized. Thus 31years of labour was wasted.
President Cheddi Jagan told me that Prime Minister Sam Hinds holds the relevant portfolio, so I must go to him for my pay. The Prime Minister sent me to Mr. Jim Blackman of BIDCO for my money.
I never worked with BIDCO, so Mr. Blackman sent me back to the Prime Minister. He them sent me to Dr. Roger Luncheon.
A letter from Dr. Luncheon, however, said that when the Prime Minister returns from Asia, he will have my matter sorted out.
That was many years ago. I am sure that I have lost more than a million dollars since that mishap.
