Zeelandia snatch victory from the jaws of defeat
– wins for Good Success, Sans Souci
Zeelandia, Good Success and Sans Souci recorded victories as the Busta 40 overs Cricket competition continued in Wakenaam recently with four matches.
At Zeelandia, the host defeated Sans Souci Jaguars by 39 runs. In a match which was reduced to 30 overs. The Jaguars won the toss and asked Zeelandia to bat first who then found themselves in early trouble as pacer Olwin Paton sent back Kamar Zaman (4) and Navishaul Pooran (5) to leave the score at 14 – 2 in 4 overs.
Two more wickets fell quickly before Dennis Adams (36) and Dharmendra Pooran (24) put together 65 for the 5th wicket to add some respectability to the total. Adams was then comprehensively bowled by pacer Zaheer Mohamed (1 – 20) while off spinner Imran Mohamed (3 – 16) sent back Pooran to leave the home team at 90 – 6 in 18 overs. A late order rally by Zeelandia saw them to 137 all out in 24 overs. Paton ended with 3 – 34 while Satnarine Sahadeo also supported well with 2 – 36.
In reply, the Jaguars, despite losing an early wicket, (1 – 6) were off to a flying start as Gladwyn Henry (18) and Safraz Mohamed (35) took the score to 45 – 1 in 8 overs. Henry was eventually caught at mid wicket, off Navishaul Pooran who ended with 3 – 20 off 6 overs.
It was at this point that the game took a dramatic turn. Left arm spinner Ricardo Adams picked up three quick wickets to leave the visitors, whose batsmen appeared to be in a hurry, in trouble at 60 – 5 in 15 overs. They never recovered from that position and were soon dismissed for 98 in the 22nd over. Adams ended with 3 – 15 while Kamar Zaman also picked up 2 – 13.
At Good Success, the host led by contrasting half centuries by Wazeer and Nazeer Mohamed, defeated Maria’s Pleasure by 7 wickets. Chasing 198 for victory, the pair joined forces in the 8th over and comfortably saw their team home in 29.5 overs.
Nazeer ended unbeaten on 71 while Wazeer was undefeated on 64. Imran Khan also contributed 23.
Earlier Maria’s Pleasure made 198 for 9 off their allotted 40 overs. Kennard Lewis top scored with 55 while Kumar Singh made 24. Imran Khan, Wazeer Mohamed, Wazier Khan and Chandreka Ragnauth each took 2 wickets for the winners.
And at Noitgedacht, the host went down to Sans Souci by 30 runs. The visitors took first strike and made 244 all out in 31 overs. Jaggernauth Manbodh was their leading run getter with 56 while Roopnarine Persaud contributed 33.
Rahman Khan captured 4 – 30 and Zayad Khan 3 – 32 for Noitgedacht who replied with 214 all out in 34 overs. Randolph Harry top scored with 84. Bowling for Sans Souci there were two wickets each for Vickram Ramnarine, Gurnauth Khemraj and Roopnarine Persaud.
Meanwhile on Saturday Sans Souci defeated Good Success by 11 runs.
Scores: Sans Souci 150 all out in 31 overs (Roopnarine Persaud 54, Wayne Osborne 29, Jaggernauth Manbodh 21, Keval Chulai 3 – 15, Imran Khan 3 – 20, Abdool Salim 2 – 6); Good Success 139 all out in 30 overs . (Salim 23, Nazeer Mohamed 21, Oyono Sampson 2 – 27, Roopnarine Persaud 2 – 17).
