GNIC, GCC, Everest, DCC register 1st round victories
Martin Rajmangal stroked a solid 51 as GNIC beat Police by eight wickets at Everest when the inaugural Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Busta 20/20 second division cricket competition commenced yesterday.
Rajmangal got support from Cylus Gibson (26) and Elton Baker (25*) as GNIC reached 114-2 off 14.3 overs replying to the 133 all out in 18.5 overs made by Police.
Rajmangal had earlier taken 2-21 to support Orlando Fraser (4-20) as Troy Benn (35) and former Guyana youth pacer Ucil Armstrong (21) offered fight with the bat for the Cops in their game which commenced at 10:00hrs.
And in the second game played at Everest yesterday, the home team, led by another good innings from the in-form Troy Gonsalves, got past Malteenoes by seven wickets after the match began at 14:00hrs.
MSC reached 99-8 in 20 overs with Winston Semple top-scoring with a carefully constructed 27. He got support from under-15 Keeper Sarfraz Esua who stroked the ball fluently in his 26 and Jermaine Joseph who made 19 not out as the 20-year-old Gonsavles continued his good all-round form with 2-12 with his leg-spin.
Gonsalves continued his consistent run with the bat with 42 and got support from Surendra Herilall (20) and Dwayne Perrier (19*) as Everest reached 100-3 in 17-1 overs.
At DCC, the host beat GYO by eight wickets after reaching 92-2 in 14 overs replying to GYO’s 91-9 off 20 overs.
Alex Ramalho hit five fours in 30 for GYO as former Guyana under-15 spinner Toralvo Scipo took 3-15 and got support from National under-19 players Trevon Griffith (2-7) and Royston Alkins (2-9).
Lawrence Smith (34), Alfred Mentore (30) and Griffith (18) then saw DCC to an easy victory.
At DCC, Guyana Born Australian Grenville and Gavin Singh hit half-centuries to see GCC to victory against Ace Warriors.
