The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Victor Anthony Sancho, 31, of Annandale, East Coast Demerara, whose body was found at about 06:00 hours yesterday on the railway embankment at Friendship with bruises to his back and blood oozing from his nostrils.
Initial reports indicated that Sancho, a labourer, was the victim of a hit-and-run accident, but there was no evidence to confirm this.
Investigators at the scene did not find any broken glass or any other thing that is consistent with a hit-and-run accident.
But no one has so far been able to provide information that would suggest otherwise, prompting the police to not rule out murder.
No one reported hearing any impacting sound. The dead man’s mother, Joy Laundry, told Kaieteur News that she was at home when someone came to her and told her that her son was lying dead on the Friendship Railway Embankment.
When she arrived at the scene, she saw her eldest son lying face down in the middle of the road.
“He don’t trouble nobody. He does just drink he lil rum,” Laundry said.
Sancho’s aunt, Monica Sancho, said that she was told by persons that her nephew may have been struck in his head by someone.
Police are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination to proceed with their investigations.
