GCC, Everest in winner’s row
By Sean Devers
Half-centuries from Abilash Dookie and Troy Gonsalves spurred Everest to victory against GNIC while Vishal Singh’s 71, led GCC to victory against Police despite 67 from Rawl Browne as action in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Pepsi 40-overs first division cricket competition continued yesterday in the Capitol.
At DCC, Dookie smashed five fours and two sixes in a pugnacious 74 and along with the consistent former Guyana under-19 leg-spinner 20-year-old Troy Gonsalves who made 56 with two fours and four sixes, put together 113 for the fourth wicket to lead Everest to 224-9 off their allotted 40 overs.
Dayanand Roopnarine chipped in with 21 as Elton Baker (3-34) Richard Chattura (2-34) and former West Indies Test off-spinner Clyde Butts, who took 2-52 in an expensive spell, were the main wicket takers for GNIC who fell for 164 in 37.1 overs to lose by 60 runs.
Mark Montfort (34), Chattura (30) and Jermaine Moe (21) offered token resistance for GNIC as former Guyana under-19 left-arm spinner Sauid Drepaul (3-18) and former Test opener Ryan Ramdass (2-34) bowled well for the Camp Road side.
At Police, Singh, one of the centurions in the President’s Cup three-day competition, stroked a classy 71 while Ravi Sarwan, the younger of Test batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan, made 32 as GCC reached 198-9 in 40 overs.
Shameer Fazal took 3-44 and Latchman Persaud 2-32 did the damage with the ball for the Cops who reached 130-9 off their allotted overs despite a fine 67 from Rawl Browne, who is the brother of former West Indies pacer Barrington Browne and ex-Guyana batsman Robin Browne.
West Indies player Leon Johnson took 3-18 while Sarwan had 2-24 and Patrick Bowman had 2-27.
