A sexagenarian of Lot 7 Princes Street, Lodge yesterday miraculously escaped unscathed when his house collapsed around him.
The building came crashing down on Maurice Cox, 67, shortly before noon yesterday, without notice.
A visibly shaken Cox yesterday told this newspaper that he heard a loud bang shortly before, but did not think too much of it, given that firecrackers are a norm at around this time of the year.
He noted that he was about to walk through his kitchen door to head outside when the building came crashing down, pinning him beneath a mound of rubble.
His neighbours immediately rushed into action and managed to free the man.
“I just thanking God right now,” was Cox’s response when asked to assess the damage.
He was also thankful for his neighbours’ assistance, pointing out that it was a good thing they shared an amicable relationship.
Cox was forced to wait outside of his collapsed house for close to an hour until a GPL crew arrived and disconnected the live power cable that was connected to his home. Only then was he allowed to salvage items that were not destroyed when the house came crashing down.
