A five wicket hall by Maria’s Pleasure off spinner Kennard Lewis enabled Wakenaam to defeat Bartica by 30 runs as the Essequibo leg of the Gafoor’s nationwide 20/20 cricket competition got underway in Zone B last weekend in Wakenaam and Leguan at Good Success.
Set 146 for victory Bartica were bowled out for 115 in 16.1 overs. Lewis was the main wrecker with 5 – 10 of 3.4 overs while Imran Khan supported with 3 – 20 off 4 overs.
Shastri Mangal top scored for Bartica with 33.
Earlier Wakenaam made 145 all out in 19.1 overs with Neil Ramalho getting 43 and Roopnarine Persaud 21. Festus Benn was Bartica’s leading wicket taker with 3 – 14 while Triston Mossena and Mangal supported with 2 each.
On Saturday at Leguan, East Bank Essequibo defeated Bartica by 27 runs. East Bank made 104 all out in 18 overs and then restricted Bartica to 77 in 12 overs.
In the day’s second game Bartica and Leguan played to a tie. Both teams made 115 – 6 off 20 overs.
The competition continues today with Wakenaam taking on East Bank Essequibo and Leguan at Wakenaam. (Zaheer Mohamed)
