Chairman of the Golden Grove Station Management Committee, Mr. Seewchan, presenting one of the security lights to Assistant Superintendent of Police Khali Pareshram.
Police ranks at the Golden Grove Police Station, on the East Bank of Demerara, will now work in a safer environment at night, thanks to the Golden Grove Station Management Committee, which donated several security lights to the station yesterday.
The lights are to be installed at strategic points near the station.
Group Chairman, Mr. Seewchan, presented the donation to Assistant Superintendent of Police Khali Pareshram and Station Sergeant Rudolph John during a simple ceremony at the station.
Mr. Seewchan explained that security concerns at the Golden Grove Police Station escalated after the three massacres earlier this year.
The Golden Grove Station Management Committee was formed in April 2008 to look at the welfare of police ranks and residents of the neighbouring communities of Grove and Diamond.
The group has a number of objectives, such as observing the operations of stations, to bring to the attention of the station administration any discrepancies, and to assist in enhancing the infrastructure and equipment at stations.
The group is headed by Mr. Seewchan (Chairman), Mr. Jairam (Vice-Chairman), Balraj Badwah (Treasurer) and Olive Williams (Assistant Secretary). There are also seven other committee members.
