When the Guyana Amateur Power Lifting Federation brings off their 2008 Senior
National Championships next Sunday at the Banks DIH Sports Club Thirst Park, patrons will be treated to some exciting performances from the big three, 2007 overall champion Mervin ‘Spongy’ Moses, ‘Big’ John Edwards and Mark ‘Uno’ Perry.
Moses has always been phenomenal with his performances, throwing up weights more than three times his own bodyweight to the awe of the fans and his fellow competitors.
‘Big’ John Edwards also has been outstanding over the years, himself and Spongy representing Guyana with flying colours.
New kid on the block Uno, who participated for the first time at the last championships, will be aiming once again to set the arena alight with his hulk like performances.
Randolph Morgan who also holds his own will be in contention as will Bhojkumar Jagnarine, veteran Winston Stoby and this years junior champion Wasim Immamdeen among others.
Athletes coming from the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden, the Ancient County of Berbice and Georgetown will compete against each other in various weight categories in the deadlift, bench press and squat.
The rivalry is expected to be fierce as the outstanding performers will be in the front line for selection to national teams for overseas competitions.
Athletes are asked to note that weigh in next Sunday will be at 08:00hrs with competition time set for 09:30hrs.
