Some 105 drivers and riders have already signaled their intentions to participate in the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) International Meeting which is scheduled to be staged on November 2, at the South Dakota Circuit.
According to a release from the club, twenty three (23) action packed events including the final leg of the Caribbean Series are slated across eight classes and they are: Rookies, Group 2A, Group 2B, Group 3, Group 4, Shifter 125cc Go-karts, Lightweight motorcycles and the big bike class consisting of 600 and 1000cc motorcycles with the final race of the day being the handicap event.
Among the countries participating in the Caribbean segment include the host Guyana, Barbados, Jamaica, St. Maarten and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
After the first two rounds held in Jamaica and Barbados respectively, veteran racer Douglas Maloney of Barbados leads the points standing on 35 points followed by Stuart Maloney also of Barbados on 30 points, David Summerbell Jr. of Jamaica is in third place with 26 points, while teammate Doug “Hollywood” Gore, the 2007 defending champion is in fourth place with 25 points and Andrew King of Guyana on 23 points round out the top five contenders.
Meanwhile, participating teams have already released the members of their contingents and they are: Team Trinidad and Tobago: Gerard Carrington, Ravi Singh and Tanko Baboolall. Carrington will compete in Group Four with Baboolall and Singh vying for top honours in Group Three.
Team Suriname is: Oliver Tjin Lip Shie.
Team Barbados: Natasha Farnum Barbados’s only female driver will make her South Dakota and International driving debut coming up against top local drivers in group 2A. The other members of Team Barbados are: Steven King GP4, Kenrick Husbands GP2A, and Hugh Simpson GP2A, Kurt Thompson GP2B.
Team Canada: In the motorcycles races, Canadians Kevin Graham and Craig Atkinson come up against local champions Stephen Vieira, Gregory Lopes and Mark Menezes. Canadian based Go-karter Michael Betancourt will be in action as well.
Shifter Karts: In the shifter 125cc division all eyes will be on veteran racer Stanley Ming as he makes a return to active racing taking on the young brigade headed by Christian and Stefan Jeffrey. Time trials will be held on Saturday, November 1st.
The main sponsors are GT&T Cellink Plus, Sunburst Orange Juice and Carib Beer (Ansa McAl)
Gates open at 07:00 hrs and the official lap of honour is set for 09:00 hrs
The first race of the day will blast off at 10:00 hrs and admission is Adults G$2,000 and children G$500.
Vehicles are free, while parking will be done on a first come first served basis.
