Good Success defeated Sans Souci by 5 wickets in the final of the Salim Khan Speed Boat Service 50 overs Cricket Competition last Sunday at Good Success in Wakenaam.
Sans Souci won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch with preparation moisture and immediately found themselves in trouble as medium pacer Wazir Khan sent back Varounie Sasepaul (6) and Roopnarine Persaud for duck to leave the score at 21- 2 in 6 overs.
Jaggernauth Manbodh and Heera Sukhram then joined forces and took the score to 90 in 20 overs with sensible batting and running between the wickets as Sans Souci appeared set for a high total.
Sukhram was then trapped L.B.W by pacer Chandreka Ragnauth for 17 who also had Vickram Ramnarine brilliantly caught at silly mid off by Wazir Khan without scoring in the same over to leave Sans Souci in trouble at 92-4 in 21 overs.
While wickets were falling at one end Manbodh was going nicely at the other and soon reached his fifty by smashing Ragnauth for a straight six.
He then celebrated the milestone by flicking the same bowler over mid wicket for four. Manbodh was eventually caught at mid wicket off left arm spinner Imran Khan who ended with figures of 3-25 from 9 overs.
From this juncture it was all down hill for Sans Souci with only Oyono Sampson 11 reaching double figures as the visitors lost their last 4 wickets for 19 runs ending on 119 in 31 overs. Ragnauth supported Khan with 3-22 while Wazir Khan and Nazeer Mohamed also grabbed two wickets each.
Good Success’ response began disastrously as pacer Roopnarine Prsaud who bowled with some pace had opener Imran Khan caught by Sampson at first slip off the very first ball of their innings.
Medium pacer Keddernauth Narain then bowled Motilall Doodnauth without scoring from a slower ball and then trapped Mustak Mohamed (01) L.B.W to leave the home team on 14-3 with 4 overs gone.
Man of the match Nazeer Mohamed and Komal Persaud then took the score to 41 before Persaud was bowled by Vickram Ramnarine for 10.
Mohamed was then joined by his younger brother Wazeer and the pair added 65 for the 5th wicket, a partnership which took the game away from Sans Souci.
Wazeer was eventually caught at midwicket for 16 but that was to be the visitors last success as Ragnauth (15 n.o) and Nazeer who ended unbeaten on 32 ensured that their team collected the winning trophy.
Good Success ended on 123 for 5 in 23 overs. Narain was Sans Souci’s leading wicket taker with 2-12 while Persaud, Ramnarine and Gurnauth Khenraj took one wicket each.
At the presentation ceremony Salim Khan congratulated the winning team and said that he was pleased to be associated with Cricket in Wakenaam.
