Vinode Samaroo of John’s Cricket Club of Port Mourant became the fourth centurion and highest individual scorer in the New Building Society’s Challenge 2nd division 40 over cricket competition in Berbice when he hit an unbeaten 127 against Letterkenny Young Stars when the competition continued last Saturday.
His ton, decorated with 16 fours and 2 sixes led his team to 240-8 off their 40 overs.
Team-mate Genesh Jallim then captured 5-27 from 6.2 overs with his off-spin to dismiss their neighbors for 129. Sewchan Ramphal’s unbeaten 75 was the backbone of Sand Reef’s 156 for 8 in 25 overs as Kendell’s Union lost by 44 runs.
Number 71 scored at more than seven runs per over to reach 258 all out in 38 overs, through 73 from Manouram Vincent and 50 from Somdat Singh. In reply, #73 Young Warriors were bowled out for 180.
Rajbance Hemraj of Bush Lot Sports Complex, Narine Deonarine of Chesney, Virvasha Ramdharry of #69, Zalim Shaw and Micheal Singh both of #72 Cut & Load, Zakir Ally of #70 MYO, Rawle Wade of Achievers and Kelwyn Bennett of Hopetown all registered half-centuries.
Medium pacer Shazad Azgar of #2 Youth & Sports Club took 6-21 as D’Edward were bowled out for 104, then watched as his batsmen made heavy weather of the target, scraping home by 2 wickets.
