DEAR EDITOR,
The Mayor and City Council continues to express serious concern about the increasing number of accumulations of garbage in different sections of the City, in spite of the effort of the municipality to collect garbage within the scheduled times, from all areas of Georgetown.
A glaring example is the regular pile up of garbage on the eastern side of King Street, between Charlotte and Regent Streets. This is very embarrassing for the City and its populace. Further, it is a disincentive to business and other allied activities in the City.
Therefore, those who indulge in this practice need to reflect on their responsibility to protect the environment, and ensure its integrity.
The Council is once again appealing to all citizens to support its programme to keep the city healthy and clean. Citizens can help by taking personal responsibility for their immediate surroundings, and showing good neighbourliness by the way they keep their yards and parapets.
Also, citizens can assist by using the litter bins which were installed by the council and members of the private sector for their convenience and benefit in the business areas in the City.
