Navindra Lall, 22, of 154 Shell Road, Kitty, sustained burns on Saturday evening when someone hurled a corrosive substance in his direction at around 18:30 hours at his residence.
The assailant is suspected to be Lall’s brother-in-law with whom he lives. Reports are that the two along with friends were drinking when they had a misunderstanding.
According to Lall, he was outside when the argument erupted and a fight started. He said that they were separated by friends who were on the scene. He further told this newspaper that his brother-in-law went upstairs and returned within 30 minutes. The exchanges continued, but by this time the brother-in-law with a cup in hand, said, “Is rum yuh want? Drink this…Cheers”, and threw the substance on him.
Lall said that his brother-in-law then proceeded to strike him in his head with a hammer.
The man’s condition is listed as stable but doctors are waiting for the swelling to reduce, so that they can ascertain the extent of the injuries.
