Health Ministry staff trained in database compilation
The Guyana office of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently provided software and training to 25 officials from within the Ministry of Health. The software, Epi Info, is a product used widely by the global community of public health practitioners and researchers to provide an easy and efficient form and database construction, data entry, and analysis with epidemiologic statistics, maps, and graphs. Among the participants in the training session held at CDC/Guyana offices in Georgetown, was Dr. Shanti Singh, Director of the National AIDS Programme Secretariat.

The goal of the endeavour was to equip the staff of the Ministry of Health with the skills required to improve data collection and analysis activities. This, in turn, will lead to the availability of precise health-related data that can inform the Ministry’s critical policy and resource decisions in the fight against HIV/AIDS, as well as its overall health care programme in Guyana.
At the end of the training, CDC/Guyana’s Chief of Party, Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck congratulated the participants on their completion of the programme. He urged them to use the newly acquired skills to improve data management within their sections.
All the participants were presented with a certificate and a CD with a copy of the software and training modules.
