Floyd Henry, 20, and Shurland Edmonson, 19, were each jailed for eight months for stealing from Barama Company Limited, because, as they said, the company had not paid them for three months.
The duo, from Buck Hall, Supenaam Creek, appeared at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Faith McGusty, charged with simple larceny. They both pleaded guilty.
According to the police, on Tuesday, October 7 last, at Buck Hall, the duo stole one drum of diesel, property of Barama Company.
When Magistrate Mc Gusty asked both Edmonson and Henry why they stole the oil, they responded that the fuel was in lieu of payment that they had not received for three months, even as they were employed by Barama.
And wildlife trapper Mohammed Kadir Shaw, of Aberdeen, Essequibo Coast, was placed on $30,000 bail by Magistrate McGusty yesterday.
Shaw was slapped with three indictable charges of possession of forged currency notes, uttering forged currency notes and obtaining those same notes by false pretence. He was therefore not required to plead to the charges.
According to the police, on October 8 last, at Anna Regina, Shaw had in his possession US$600 in counterfeit notes.
The report added that, on that day, Shaw went to businessman Kennard Jones in the Anna Regina Market and tendered US$300 in forged currency. Moments later, Shaw allegedly sent his friend, Lall Persaud, with another US$300 in forged currency notes to the same businessman.
The counterfeit was spotted when the businessman, Jones, sent his wife, Anita, to change the notes at a cambio.
Shaw was arrested and charged. He has been in police custody since Saturday last.
