DEAR EDITOR,
Nothing made me so furious, on October 11, 2008, as to read via the SN about “Geneiva Henry,” whose body was found in close proximity to the Brickdam Presbytery.
Over the years, it was my choice to acknowledge her as a senior citizen who would spend most of her time during the day sitting on the pavement, very harmless; and when I can, I would offer whatever is available with the hope that she would make the best out of it.
On a personal note, I don’t think that she was a beggar, for not one moment over the years had she ever stretched her hand and requested anything, but it was always my choice to stop and ask of her wellbeing.
From what I know, the pavement was her sanctuary and The Brickdam Cathedral played a major role, for she was well known to staff members and parishioners.
It is indeed a shock to learn of her demise, which was brutal; and it is my only wish that her soul rests peacefully.
Whether one is homeless or not, I guess that we all have got to watch our backs, for every class and creed seems to be the prey by notorious elements in society.
I don’t expect anyone to agree with me on this, but it’s time to start protecting one’s self in whatever manner is chosen.
T. Pemberton
