A man, who was honest enough to admit to the court that he sold some items he had stolen while he was ‘high,’ has been jailed.
Yesterday, 33-year-old Corvin Sankar appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, charged with simple larceny.
On October 10, he allegedly stole one television set valued at $35,000; one DVD player, valued at $20,000; and one stereo set, valued at $70,000. He pleaded guilty to the charges.
When asked by the magistrate to explain to the court what really transpired, Sankar said that on the day in question he was consuming alcohol, after which he decided to smoke some cocaine. He said that he then decided to steal the items, which were readily available to him, to buy more cocaine.
He said that he sold the television set for $5,000, the DVD player for $3,000 and the stereo set for $4,000. For his honesty, he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment.
And in the same court yesterday, Magistrate Robertson granted $50,000 bail each to two men who were charged with robbery with aggravation. The duo, Mark Richmond, 25, and Dellon Forester, 17, were jointly charged for robbing Bryan Naman of one silver chain, valued $26,000, on October 9.
Both men pleaded not guilty. The court was told that neither man is a first offender.
They are expected to return to court on October 25.
