Ranks of a police mobile patrol recovered an unlicensed .32 Taurus pistol with two live rounds that bandits, who had earlier robbed Amin’s Esso at Regent and King Streets on Sunday night, managed to throw away.
The bandits also managed to escape the patrol unit which had come up on the scene shortly after the robbery.
This was the second attack on the fuel station within two weeks.
According to reports, at about 22:10 hours, two bandits, one of whom was armed with the weapon, entered the supermarket section of the facility and held cashier Ualdien Fraser at gunpoint. They then proceeded to relieve her of $5,000 and her cell phone.
During the incident, security guard Lennox Batson, who was by the door leading to the supermarket, was struck on his head with the firearm.
Kaieteur News understands that as the perpetrators were leaving the gas station, ranks of a mobile police patrol were passing in the vicinity. Upon seeing them, the two men escaped along King Street, throwing away the firearm in the process.
A subsequent search of the area unearthed the weapon.
No one has been arrested so far but investigations are continuing.
