Seventeen-year-old National under-19 opener Jeetendra Sookdeo followed up his stunning second division century on Saturday with another entertaining batting display as he stroked an unbeaten 136 to lead GCC to an emphatic 185-run win against St Winifred’s Secondary yesterday at GNIC in the DeSinco 40-overs under-19 cricket competition.
Sookdeo’s scintillating century took just 93 balls while National under-17 selectee Delon Fernandes followed up his second division 97 last week with a commanding 75 as he returned to form ahead of Guyana’s participation in this year’s regional under-17 series in Trinidad in December.
Demerara under-19 left-hander Kamal Ramkissoon (37) and Elon Fernandes (28) were also among the runs as D. Peters took 2-54 for the School team.
Peters returned to hit 54 and got support from Ray Kissoon who made 24 as St Winifred’s Secondary were dismissed for 135 as left-arm spinner Raj Nanan taught the students a lesson with 5-16, while the versatile Sookdeo continued his dream weekend on the cricket field with 3-11 with his leg-spin for the Bourda boys.
