A batch of more than 500 participants turned up at the office of the Benschop Foundation in Robb Street to graduate from that organisation’s ongoing ‘Introduction to Windows’ computer course. The computer course is another strategy of the organisation as it strives to bring assistance in various forums to the poor and needy in society.
More than 400 new applicants from various parts of Guyana also turned up at the location on the said day for the second phase of courses, which will commence tomorrow.
Those graduating yesterday concluded their course which started three weeks ago.
While the computer classes are of three weeks’ duration, the organization also hosts nail technology and cake decorating classes, which last one and a half months each.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Executive Officer Mark Benschop said that the idea of the courses is for the organisation to meet its mandate of ensuring that citizens are involved in meaningful ventures and activities, while at the same time ensuring that idle youths are kept off the streets or engaged in possible idle activities.
The tutor for the computer courses is Kayode Lambert.
Special invitee, Mayor Hamilton Green, advised the graduates that knowledge is power, and urged them to access every such existing opportunity since there is a dire need to keep abreast with new technological advances.
Present also at the ceremony was Tom Dalgety, who is responsible for the production and distribution of ‘African Moods’ film releases.
Orientation and training for the courses are absolutely free.
