The residents of Hubu Backdam, a community near Parika, East Bank Essequibo, have reported.
That a man prowls the area after dark and recently there have been reports of rape.
One of the residents said that, early yesterday morning, she was listening to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) news as she was lying in her bed, and she suddenly heard her dog barking. The woman said that, because of the way the dog was barking, she knew that there was an intruder. She said that she proceeded to turn down her radio, to better hear what was going on outside, and heard footsteps. She said that she then rushed to wake her grandson to tell him that someone was outside.
The woman said that they saw no one, and returned to bed, but not before making sure that she armed herself with a cutlass, to defend herself should anyone come through the window and try to attack her.
According to the residents, the man is fairly well known in the area, but is often shielded from his wrongdoings because he presents himself as a religious man.
