The Rising Sun Turf Club on the West Coast of Berbice is set to come alive today when they stage a one day eight event horse race meet organized by the club in collaboration with Friends incorporated.
Competitors will be vying for over 2 million dollars in prize money along with trophies.
With so much on offer a scintillating and action packed day of racing is anticipated, as most of the country top horses have taken entry.
There are three feature events on the day’s card; the C and lower, the 3 yr old classic for horses Born and Bread in the West Indies and Guyana and the 2 yr old event.
There are also two other top notch races for horses classified F and one for the G class horses. Over 45 horses have entered so far.
Banks DIH is sponsoring the feature C class event which has a first prize of $300.000 and the Banks DIH trophy at stake and will see the horses galloping over a distance of 1400m.
Some of the big names entered are Sequins, Daylight Reprise, Laura lee In Flight, Getting Something and Spin and Squeeze
Spectators will once again see the top three year olds in the country in action as they battle for the $200,000 purse.
Demerara Distilleries Limited is sponsoring this event which will also be a 1400m affair. Jumbo Joy will continue its battle with Pinch de Cash, The Gap and Tropical Passion.
Ansa McAl, another beverage giant, has put up the incentives for the Two Year old event which and has $150,000 on offer for the winner.
This race will be run over a distance of 1300m. Champion horse Coconut Boy will be severely tested by Party Time, Justice Warrior, Time Dancer, and Tidal Wave.
The F Class race, covering 1300m and have a $120,000 purse. Among those in contention are Laura lee in Flight, Sacrifice, One of a Kind, Brave Heart and Fairy Tale Romance.
The G class event with a $100,000 first prize available for the winner will see a clash among Baby Boy, Shue Shuemi, Sacrifice, Brave Heart, and Brown Boy. The distance is 1400 metres,
The other races listed for the day’s programme are all 1100 metres events namely the I and lower with a first prize of $80,000.
The J and K race which has $70,000, available for the winner. The top horse in the L class race will get $60.000.
Other incentives on offer will be for champion jockey and champion trainer and according to the organisers the track is in excellent conditions. Racing starts at 13:00 hrs.
