Essequibo Islands Secondary School won the Ministry of Education, Guyana Teachers Union inter-schools athletics sports held on Wakenaam last Friday at the Islands Community Centre Ground, Good Success.
E.I.S.S. totalled 784 points followed Sans Souci Primary in second place with 497 points. Arthurville Primary came third with 470 points while Maria’s Pleasure and Zeelandia Primary ended up in fourth and fifth position with 250 and 240 points respectively.
The champion athletes who were presented with trophies for their outstanding efforts are as follows: Under-8 Nkosi Hollingsworth (SSPS) (male) and C. Retemiah (A.P.S) (female).
Under-10 – Junior Persaud (S.S.P.S) (Male), K Brown (female) (A.P.S).
Under-12 – Jumal Hartman (male) (A.P.S) , Malinda Henry (female) (S.S.P.S)
Under-14 – Morris Retemiah – E.I.S.S. (male Rachel Connelly – E.I.S.S (female).
Under-16 – Eon Osborne – E.I.S.S (male). Alita Moore – E.I.S.S (female).
The trophies were donated by Ahmad Khan, Mustak Mohamed, Nadir Mustakeen, Salim Abjal, Asif Ahmad, Salim Ahmed, Arthurville Primary School and the Ethnic Relations Commission.
Wakenaam will now take on Leguan in the Inter – Branch Championships at Wakenaam on October 24.
The outstanding athletes will then be selected to represent Wakenaam and Leguan (Essequibo Islands) district 16 at the National Championships. (Zaheer Mohamed)
