DEAR EDITOR,
The Hitlerism analogy is being invoked indiscriminately by many in and of Guyana, obviously to silence those who do not pay lip service to an era that is, perhaps, euphoric for those casually throwing around those comparisons.
However, the fabric of the analogy becomes very fragile when one examines the foundational perspective that steered the attitudes and behaviours of Adolph Hitler, and that which does the same to those upon whom such ridiculous and odious aspersions are now being cast.
The foundational principles (and that is some stretch of a euphemism) that shaped the perspective of Adolph Hitler revolved around adoption of a belief system that humans were made up of two groups of being, with one group being naturally intellectually and physically superior, and the other being naturally intellectually and physically inferior.
Everything that miserable idiot did, every policy that turd enacted, every word that exited that putrid aperture that substituted for his mouth were growths from the roots of these principles fertilizing and bearing the bitter fruits of his psyche.
The use of the analogous tool in Guyana today is as dastardly as any ploy historically engaged in to silence the messenger in order to impeach the foundation of his message.
Most of the people upon whom these aspersions are being cast in Guyana share more in common with those who were despised by Adolph Hitler, and who he collectively attempted to eliminate.
In fact, if one were to base comparisons on positions being supported by either side, it will not be too difficult to discern that the analogy is more fitting when applied to the perspective of many of the same people throwing these aspersions around willy nilly.
If the targets of their intolerant tirades were in regions plundered by the Nazis during that awful era, both their views and their physical characteristics would have rendered them eligible for the same kind of antipathy and worse from the jackbooted thugs and enforcers of that era.
These conscientious social activists, because that is what they are to many of us outside the peripheral and privileged sphere of political power in Guyana, have become targets for pernicious hate campaigns because they choose to separate themselves from the influencing magnetism of race and ethnicity in their search for truths, and their analysis of history and events in Guyana.
They are perceived by their detractors to be metamorphosing, not only philosophically, but also physically, in terms of things like their hair texture, into a group many of these detractors consider ought to be less equal than themselves.
And where the analogy with Hitler poignantly begins to take shape, ironically I might add, is in the often venomous and vindictive reaction triggered by people not following in lock step with what is expected from them based on the texture of their hair and membership in an ethnic grouping.
The late Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr opined that, quote: “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable… Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals”, end quote.
Guyana is rapidly become the laboratory where this theory is being tested and proven day in and day out.
The concept of Democracy, Justice, Equality and Freedom have become caricatured principles for those more happy and content with the heady and psychotropic sense of being on top or close to the top, than they are with the ideal manifestations of these principles.
And those who dare to agitate and demand the real thing rather than camouflaged dictatorship and autocracy have become virtual enemies of that acceptable state, and the pundits are satisfied and content with it.
I would urge all Guyanese of sound mind and discretion not to believe that their eyes and senses lie to them when they take in a reality that contradicts some of what is being put out there for indoctrinating consumption.
Your friend is not the one who tells you that you are crazy when you know and say that you are hurting.
Your friend is the one who empathises with your pain, and councils’ legal and ethical remedies with which it can be alleviated.
