West Indies female team selectee, left-arm fast bowler Erva Giddings, warmed
up for the regional team’s tour to Sri Lanka with a five-wicket haul playing with and against males at the second division level in the NBS Challenge Berbice 40-overs competition on Sunday.
The 22-year-old Giddings, who hails from Alness Village in Corentyne Berbice, 19 miles from Guyana’s oldest town, New Amsterdam and approximately 85 miles from the Capitol, snatched 5-32 from seven overs in a losing effort for Rose Hall Town Bakwell against Fyrish.
Giddings, the lone Guyanese in the West Indies team which was originally scheduled to also tour Pakistan, bowled with excellent control and took the first four wickets to leave Fyrish on 25-4 before they eventually reached 104-8 replying to Rose Hall Town’s 103 in 38 overs.
Guyana under-19 all-rounder Jonathon Foo smashed a belligerent 86 and along with Doodnauth Beharry who made 92, added 130 for the second wicket to spearhead Albion to a 96-run win against Port Mourant.
