The qualification for the National Chess Championships begins this Sunday at the St Stanislaus College on Brickdam.
The tournament will be played according to the Swiss System and consist of eight rounds. The tournament will be conducted in two categories, a Senior and Junior with the duration of two hours per game.
In the Senior Category, the top seven finishers will join the reigning National Champion, Berbician Kriskal Persaud in a double round robin tournament for the National Championship which begins in November. Kriskal Persaud has automatically qualified, as he is the current National Champion.
In the junior category, eight players will go forward for the juniors, as the current junior champion Ronald Roberts is not eligible due to age limit.
The schedule is as follows: Sunday, October 12 – 3 games. Registration starts at 9:00 am with the first game at 10:00 am Saturday, October 18 – 2 games; Begin at 2:00 pm Sunday, October 19 – 3 games; Begin 10:00 am
All chess players are invited to participate. Players are advised that scoring is mandatory. All games will be played at the St Stanislaus College.
