Yesterday, a 13-year-old Cotton Field Secondary School student was saved from being separated from his mother and sent to the New Opportunity Corps (NOC) at Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast.
Mr. Ano Narine was the Good Samaritan. He was present in court yesterday and volunteered to repay $30,000 to Sandra Ramlacan from whom the lad had stolen the money. The teenager’s parents at the time had only compensated the teacher with $3,000.
The teen was charged with break and enter and larceny and when the charge was read to him, summarily, he pleaded guilty.
According to the police, on August 23, last, at Richmond Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, the youth broke and entered the house of Miss Sandra Ramalacan and stole $35.000.
When the matter was called before Magistrate Faith McGusty, yesterday, the lad told the court that it was another boy who had sent him to steal the money.
When the magistrate asked the young man what he did with the money, he responded that he purchased one camera phone and a wrist watch and used the rest of money on video games.
And another teenager, who was remanded on October 1 last for having sexual intercourse with his step-sister, was released on $25,000 bail by Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty when he made his appearance in court yesterday.
On a previous occasion when the accused was granted bail in the sum of $30,000 on the same charge, he failed to attend court and that bail was escheated.
Yesterday, his lawyer, Alfred Bacchus, told the court that his client was afflicted with malaria and needed to seek medical attention immediately.
He also said that his client will attend his trial and he apologised for his client’s previous absence.
The police stated that between January and December last year, at Danielstown, Essequibo Coast, the accused had sex with the girl.
