DEAR EDITOR,
The Guyana Fire Service made an impressive move with its educational aspect of the fire demonstration just recently on the East Bank.
In addition, talks in collaboration with the Ministry of Education could be considered with the re-introduction of “Fire Drills” within all educational facilities throughout Guyana and at least once every school term it could be put into practice.
Most importantly, a campaign of securing and placing fire extinguishers in all the above mentioned facilities are necessary and training will have to be conducted.
Two other subject areas I strongly believe that needs to play a major role within the education system are training in “CPR and First Aid” and it should also be made mandatory from secondary level to university.
I am aware that financial resources and training personnel will be the key factors in having the above executed, but an attempt to have a discussion on the issue wouldn’t cost that much and who knows, fruits can bear from the discussion.
