DEAR EDITOR,
I read, received and have seen numerous reports of CARIFIESTA X celebration in Guyana. Kudos to Guyana for an excellent show.
Apart from entertainment, it provided persons an opportunity to work.
My main concern is the non-payment for services rendered by some.
CARIFESTA X is over since August and to date there are many persons still awaiting just and favourable remuneration.
I speak for people like some private drivers, musical band leaders and others who do not have a voice. The drivers gave their services without receiving advance payment or gasoline allowance despite the high cost. These people sought the opportunity to secure their sustainable livelihood through working with the Ministry and the CARIFESTA X organising committees, which were responsible for the event.
Questions: Don’t they too deserve the right to equal work for equal pay? What is or who are the people responsible for the delay in payment?
I hope that Dr. Anthony and others would address the concerns of these workers who did a decent job and helped in making CARIFESTA X a success. Please be reminded that Mashramani is coming up and you may require the services of these people again.
Concerned Guyanese
