Good Success will clash with Sans Souci in what is expected to be an exiting final of the Salim Khan Speedboat Service 50 overs knockout cricket competition after defeating Maria’s Pleasure by 5 wickets in the semi-final last Sunday at Good Success in Wakenaam.
Maria’s Pleasure won the toss and elected to bat first and found themselves in problems as pacer Chandreka Ragnauth sent back opener Ryan Lewis in the third over to leave the score at 10 – 1.
Maria’s Pleasure never really recovered despite a 4th wicket partnership of 30 between Ryan Gordon and Kennard Lewis (24 each) and were soon bowled for 122 in the 29th over. Kumar Singh also helped with 18 and Leonard Lewis made 16 towards the end of their innings as the visitors lost their last 4 wickets for 20 runs.
Offspinner Nazeer Mohamed, who copped the best bowler’s award in the recently concluded Essequibo Busta Cricket Festival, bagged 4 – 22 off 6 overs while promising left arm spinner Imran Khan claimed 3 – 26 and Ragunauth 2 for 25 for Good Success who began their reply in rapid fashion.
Motilall Doodnauth (37) and Imran Khan (29) posted 73 for the 1st wicket partnership off just 12 overs. Doodnauth was lbw to Kennard Lewis while off spinner Ryan Gordon trapped Khan plumb in front to leave the score at 80 – 2 in 14 overs.
Any thoughts of a Maria’s Pleasure come from behind victory were soon dashed as Wazeer Mohamed took the attack to the bowlers striking 2x6s and 5x4s on his way to 32.
He took 16 off 4 balls from Gordon, who had his revenge by uprooting the batsman’s middle stump with a faster ball as he attempted to hit the spinner out of the ground.
Nazeer Mohamed 8 n.o. and Lionel Singh 6 n.o. ensured that their team qualified for the final on Sunday. Good Success ended on 123 for 5 off 25 overs. (Zaheer Mohamed)
