Nandy Park unavailable until next week
Defending national 20/20 champions Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) will now face DCC in the first round of the Demerara zone of the Gafson’s National 20/20 first division club competition scheduled for Friday from 14:00hrs.
MSC, who beat Albion in Berbice in the last final, were scheduled to oppose East Bank team Nandy Park but according to President of the Demerara Cricket Board Bissoon Singh, Nandy Park informed the DCB yesterday morning that they could not field a team on Friday but would be ready for action next Friday.
DCC were originally given the bye in the first round but will now be in action against MSC at the DCC ground in Queenstown in what could be the match of the round.
Fourteen teams will contest the Demerara zone with the eight City sides (MSC, DCC, GCC, TSC, GDF, Police, Everest & GNIC) being joined by West Demerara teams Mavericks and New Line Line Aqua Fresh along with East Coast sides Lusignan and East Coast combined and University of Guyana. Nandy Park is the other team in the competition which is also being played in the Berbice and Essequibo zones.
The Berbice and Essequibo zones are scheduled to commence on October 17 with eight teams in Essequibo and 12 teams in Berbice.
According to the DCB, the playing conditions for the competition will be released by the Guyana Cricket Board this week while a list of players from each club must be submitted to the Competitions committee before the beginning of the first round.
The DCB has also mandated that Match reports must be submitted not later than 72 hours after the completion of each Match and failure to do so may result in points being disregarded. Balls will be provided by the Demerara Cricket Board’s Competitions Committee.
Fixtures for Friday Demerara zone read: Zone A; MSC vs DCC at DCC, Maverick vs East Coast at Enterprise, Police vs GNIC at Police. (Nandy Park bye)
Zone B; New Line Aqua vs Lusignan, GCC vs UG at GCC, Everest vs TSC at Everest. (GDF bye).
