Workers of BOSAI Minerals Guyana Inc. in Linden yesterday continued industrial action as they seek to have colleagues who were recently dismissed and suspended re-employed and all warning letters that were issued to these workers recalled.
The workers had proceeded with industrial action on Monday to protest the dismissal of two workers and the suspension of five others, after they had reportedly gone home at the end of an eight-hour shift.
According to reports, the workers were served with dismissal and suspension letters the following day. Their colleagues are demanding that these workers be reinstated immediately, and those suspended recalled to work with full pay for the time they were off the job.
A $700 meal allowance, after eight hours of work, is also being demanded by the employees, who consider the present two small packets of biscuit and coffee, given to them after working the eight hour shift, grossly inadequate.
Their union, NAACIE, has mandated that once workers work beyond eight hours, they should be given the $700 meal allowance, and if the company cannot afford to do so, then workers should not be called upon to work beyond eight hours.
Personnel and Industrial Relations Superintendent, Peter Benny, has meanwhile confirmed that management of Bosai, union representatives and officials from the Ministry of Labour will meet today for discussions aimed at resolving the issues.
