The young Buxton United team has continued their solid showing in the 2008 Mackeson/East Demerara Football Association senior league by drawing with Bakewell Buxton Stars in their latest game on Sunday at the B.V. ground.
The result has kept their unbeaten run intact and also gave them the top spot in the point’s standings.
The young Buxton side missed two penalties in the game, one in the 10th minute and the other which would have given them victory, in the 88th minute, Clive Andries who had given them the go ahead goal in the 43rd minute, missed the late opportunity. Michael Dover responded for Bakewell Buxton Stars 9 minutes into the second half.
The young Buxton side with an average age of 18 and in their first season in the senior league, continues to improve with every game and will certainly be a threat to the defending champions’ quest of retaining the title.
Andries, who is also a national junior cricketer, is now the leading goal scorer in the league with five.
In Sunday’s other match, Mahaica mauled Black Stallion 5-0, Tremaine Richmond netting a hat-trick (42, 73 & 79). Sherwin Hermanstine opened the scoring in the 13th minute with Azumah Roberts adding the other in the 51st.
