Police will be seeking legal advice to ascertain whether two men who allegedly attacked Number 74 Village, Corentyne resident Sookdeo Mithoo during a robbery attempt will be charged in connection with his death.
Mithoo, 63, fell unconscious last week Tuesday after being struck on the head with a handgun.
He succumbed, at around 22:00 hrs on Saturday, without regaining consciousness at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
According to the results of an autopsy conducted yesterday, death was due to a cerebral infraction, or damage to the arteries in the brain.
According to reports, Mithoo and his wife were in their yard at Number 74 Village, Corentyne, at around 05:00 hrs on Tuesday, when three men, who were armed with a handgun, pounced on them. Mithoo was struck on the head, but the gang fled empty-handed after the victim’s wife raised an alarm.
Two suspects were eventually apprehended in a bushy area near the Scottsburg Beach by members of the Rampoor Community Policing Group. They have both been charged for the robbery attempt and for unlawful possession of arms and ammunition.
