Defending Cellink Premier League champions Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United are back in pole position following their 1-0 win over Uprising on Friday evening when play in the competition continued at the Tucville ground.
A Leon Grumble 76th minute strike earned Alpha full points and the lead at least for the while.
Uprising, sitting at the bottom of the table on 3 points, continues to be a tough nut to crack in this second and final round of the league after being the whipping boys in the first round.
Alpha’s captain Shawn Bishop was red carded in the 22nd minute of the match.
Pele and Santos played to a 1-1 tie in the evening’s other clash. Santos took the lead on the stroke of half time when Asagai Clarke fired past goalkeeper Shemroy Arthur.
Pele however earned an equal share of the points six minutes after the break when inspirational midfielder and playmaker Travis ‘Zorro’ Grant found the back of the nets.
This evening and exciting double header is on which can see point’s leaders Alpha being overtaken.
In the clash of the juices, Sunburst Camptown matches skills with Fruta Conquerors in what is expected to be a keen tussle in the main event.
Both captains are central defenders and nationals players, Orlando Gilgeous (Camptown) and Neville Stanton (Conquerors) and will be marshalling their forces with the aim of gaining full points.
This evening’s opening game will see the red hot Guyana Defence Force (GDF), just one point behind Alpha taking on Georgetown Football Club (14) as they seek full points to strengthen their bid to win the championship. (Franklin Wilson)
