…challenge to PNCR leadership was not a factor
Leader of the People’s National Congress Reform, Robert Corbin, yesterday confirmed that it has indeed been recommended that PNCR member James McAllister tender his resignation as a Member of Parliament.
However, Corbin noted that the disciplinary actions are not as a result of press reports of him challenging the leadership of the party.
“No disciplinary proceedings were brought against anyone for challenging the leadership of the party.” Corbin said.
According to Corbin, what was taken before the disciplinary committee of the party were reports of behaviour which members of the party felt were inconsistent with good party membership.
The disciplinary committee, Corbin said, which has certain procedures, followed them and gave everyone a right to be heard, and then adjudicated on the facts before them; and they made recommendations.
“There were several other matters concerning him, not only relating to the congress. One of the recommendations was that he should be asked to resign from the Parliament,” the PNCR leader said.
Other persons were taken before the disciplinary committee, Corbin added, stating that most of those were reprimanded, since the committee did not find that there was any malice on their part in some of the activities they were involved in.
Instead, he added, the committee felt that there were errors of judgement in pursuing what may have been in the best interest of the party.
Similarly, there was a report written about Vincent Alexander, Corbin said.
In that matter, the committee expressed certain concerns about statements made by him, and they made certain recommendations to the Central Executive Committee.
These recommendations will be pursued and followed up, Corbin said yesterday.
