Lawyers for Clayton Hutson and Joseph Aboud moved to the courts with writs of habeas corpus yesterday.
However, only Trinidadian Aboud was released from police custody on his writ. The writ for Hutson would be heard today in the High Court.
According to a prominent lawyer who has been watching Aboud’s interest, his client was released from police custody at some time after midday yesterday.
Kaieteur News was told that, on Thursday, Aboud’s lawyer filed a habeas corpus writ in the High Court before Justice Roxanne George-Wiltshire, and there was supposed to be a hearing yesterday.
However, this newspaper was told that, at some time around noon yesterday, Aboud made contact with his lawyer to state that he was released from police custody.
This newspaper was told that Aboud was released with no condition attached to his release. There was no order for him to report back to the police.
Further, Aboud was released without being made to post station bail, nor has any charge been laid against him.
On Friday last, the Guyana Police Force issued wanted bulletins for Clayton Hutson, Trinidadian Joseph Aboud, and Frankie Ross in connection with the illegal importation of firearms and ammunition.
Police had issued warrants in the past for both Hutson and Aboud. Hutson was also charged, then freed, for the murder of former policeman Howard Cummings, who was gunned down in South Ruimveldt some years ago.
He was also held in connection with the murder of Claudius Sam, who was slain in Albouystown.
A warrant was issued for Aboud following the disappearance of Tenisha Morgan, the girlfriend of slain gunman Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins.
Both Hutson and Aboud surrendered to the police by reporting to the Criminal Investigations Department at Eve Leary in the company of their lawyers. Aboud was the first to surrender on Wednesday, and Hutson did likewise on Thursday.
