DEAR EDITOR,
I wish to congratulate the members, supporters, and leadership of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) for, again, holding a successful General Council Meeting on Saturday September 27, 2008.
The overwhelming support, and attendance at this important meeting serves to demonstrate the resounding commitment, and dedication members have for the party and its leadership and to the wider Guyanese society.
To the members, your continued show of strength at these meetings indicate that you are concerned about the rapid level of decline in which our country is heading, and that you are prepared to remain active participants to bring about meaningful change.
It is clear that should we remain passive, or resort to the role of the “opportunist critics”, the powers that be will remain insolent to the cry of the people, even as we dive further in the obvious abyss.
At this time when Guyanese are experiencing harsh economic realities brought on largely by a strangling 16% Value Added Tax (VAT), allegations of state sponsored torture, a country ranking as the most corrupt English Speaking Caribbean nation (according to a recent Transparency International Report which shows Guyana ranking 128 out of 180 countries), pit latrine in 21st century that’s killing our children, blatant disregard for the rule of law, glaring evidence of bad-governance, attack on press freedom, rampant corruption and discrimination, a surging teenage criminal enterprise, massive teacher migration, a struggling judicial system, among other misgivings, I encourage you to stand resolved in your cause to rid Guyana of the obvious injustice that prevails in our society, and let us not be distracted by those who are plotting, daily, to wean our energies and thwart our focus.
As we advance our party’s cause in the fight for a decent society, we advance the courage of our citizens to get involved in this noble fight.
The quest for a truly democratic nation must be a desire for all of our peoples. Let us stay focused, resolute and steadfast in our mission to bring about meaningful change in Guyana for all of us, and generations to follow.
