Nine-time champions Covent Garden Secondary set yet another Indoor Windball Cricket record by becoming the first male team to score over 200 runs in an innings last Monday when play resumed in this year’s AL Sport & Tour Promotions / Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport / National Sports Commission & Guyana Teachers’ Union 8-a-side, 8 overs Competition, at the National Gymnasium.
In scores from the matches played – Covent Garden beat East Ruimveldt by 127 runs.
East Ruimveldt Secondary after winning the toss invited Covent Garden to bat first and they rattled up an imposing 211-4 thanks to Shameer Fazal, who belted a rapid 83 and Khemraj Singh’s 62.
East Ruimveldt in their turn in the middle was restricted to 84-6 with Wayne Yansen 25 and Godfrey Ferreira 23, being the principal scorers. Bowling for Covent Garden, Asif Ishok took 3-17 and Jagdesh Bishun 2-5.
L’Aventure defeated IBC by 52 runs.
L’Aventure compiled 145-1 against International Business College (IBC) with Safraz Esay 83, Colwyn Reedon 44.
IBC in reply was dismissed for 93 off 7.1 overs. S. Saywack 31 and Romel Hernandez 25. For L’Aventure, Omesh Godha took 3-10, Lucain Sam 2-12 and Othinel Cupidore had 2-24.
Meanwhile, in last Friday’s results:
Lodge High defeated Monar Educational Institute (MEI) by 43 runs.
Taking first strike, Lodge compiled 171-1 off the allotted 8 overs with Cordell Mars 81 and Stephen Sampson 62 not out, being the principal scorers.
MEI in reply was restricted to128-4. Selwyn Williams made 54, while Donryck Rodney supported with 47.
Mars returned to capture 2 wickets.
David Rose High succumbed to Goed Fortuin by four wickets. Batting first, David Rose reached 118-5 with Akeem Williams stroking 70. Toney Smith and Andre Bernard each picked up 2 wickets.
Goed Fortuin Sec replied with 122-3. Damion Major hit a top-score of 55. In the meantime, plans are in place for the staging of the 17th Annual Christmas Term Female Windball Cricket Championship.
According to a release from the Organisers, a decision is to be taken on whether the games will be played under lights, at the national Gymnasium. Only selected schools will be invited to this year’s event.
