Spellen/Lorimer for October 1-6 tourney in Puerto Rico
Although this country has been represented in Taekwondo in other events, Guyana is set to make its first appearance at the Pan American Taekwondo Championships slated for Caguas Puerto Rico from October 1-6.
Since the Pan American Taekwondo Championships was first staged in Mexico City in 1978 Guyana has not sent a representative and this year Adrian Spellen and Svenkenrick Lorimer have been selected to compete under the Golden Arrow Head at the event in the Caribbean Island.
The 24-year-old Spellen was one of three Guyanese who represented Guyana in Taekwondo in this year’s Olympics in Beijing and won Gold for this county in Trinidad in June at the Caribbean Taekwondo Championships.
The 22-year-old Lorimer, who like Spellen resides in the USA, will be making his debut for Guyana in this tournament.
According to the Guyana Taekwondo Association’s Liaison officer Latoya Herbert, Spellen’s father, Bernard Spellen, is the Guyana coach for the trip to Puerto Rico. (Sean Devers)
