The Guyana 4H club has been re-established and is currently operating under the Ministry of Agriculture in the compound of the Guyana School of Agriculture.
This organisation focuses on the educational, social and economic advancement of young people in Guyana and in the region.
Executive Director of the organisation, Kervin Ragunanan, noted that the association hopes to commence its work plan by the end of this year, as along as it receives a positive response from the government and the private sector for assistance in achieving its goals and objectives.
The club is also seeking to raise some $75 million in order to commence some of its programmes that include providing training for young people in the areas of leadership, sustainability, agricultural diversification, plot management and home making.
Ragunanan noted that these programmes will be introduced in all ten regions of Guyana, through schools, churches and the community based organisations.
It will target persons between the ages of nine and 25 years old to serve as cubits, and young people from age 25 to 35 years old to serve as leaders. Senior persons up to 60 years old will serve as advisors and volunteers.
Ragunanan said that the organisation has also planned four regional conferences, two international conferences, two training camps, two regional meetings, Guyana Agriculture National Achievement Day, and 4H youth and sports award certificate ceremony.
As such, the club has sent out letters to the private sector and the government requesting their assistance in achieving the organisation’s goals and objectives for year one of the programmes.
The organisation aims to foster greater collaboration between 4H clubs and other youth organisations for the advancement and development of young people in Guyana, while at the same time promote and facilitate cooperation between the 4H clubs in the region by developing and standardizing award systems for projects.
