The Commonwealth Games bound boxing and table tennis teams paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister, The Honourable Samuel Hinds, who is performing the duties of President, at his office yesterday prior to their impending departure for India.
The teams comprising of four boxers and four table tennis players along with coaches Carl Franklyn (boxing) and Linden John (table tennis), Chef-de-Mission Dr Karen Pilgrim and Manager Affeeze Khan (absent was boxing coach Terrence Poole) dropped in on PM Hinds.
The Prime Minister in his pep-talk, wished the athletes well and expressed the desire to see them perform successfully in India and fly the Golden Arrowhead high and proudly.
This is the first time that Guyana is being represented at the Commonwealth Youth Games and the athletes and their coaches are excited at their prospect and are bent on winning medals at the event.
Khan thanked Scotia Bank and its Manager Amanda St Aubyn for their donation of T-shirts for the entire team. He also expressed gratitude to all that have assisted them to date.
