NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE – Robbery suspects Davidson and Desmond Isaacs were both refused bail on Friday at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court.
Magistrate Chandra Sohan remanded the men to prison until October 10th, when the matter would come up for fixture.
On September 23rd, the two were accused of breaking into the home of Kelvin Bissoon, of Chapel Street in New Amsterdam.
They allegedly stole a camera worth $21,000, along with gold jewellery. Together, the loot is worth some $201,000.
Police prosecutor Fazal Karimbaksh opposed bail for the number one accused Davidson, and requested substantial surety for the other.
Twenty-nine-year-old Davidson, of Cumberland in East Canje, reportedly has outstanding matters at a Georgetown Magistrate’s Court. He was said to be enjoying pre-trial liberty when he allegedly committed this new offence.
Twenty-year-old Desmond Isaacs, of Vryheid in West Canje, told the court that he is a clothes vendor in Pitt Street. This location is the street next to where the alleged break-and-enter was committed.
When Magistrate Chandra Sohan asked Isaacs if this was his first brush with the law, the prisoner said that he was no first offender. “Ah did a tackle for one year,” he replied.
