Kelwin Chapman tucked in a goal in the eighteenth minute of the first half and Kelston Lamott emulated his teammate in the twentieth minute of the second, to earn Alpha United a win against Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and a place in the final of the DeSinco U-18 football tournament at the Tucville Ground, Saturday last.
In the other semi-final match Conquerors Manasseh ‘Ziggy’ Primo blasted a double and Earl McCoy scored from the penalty spot to see their team waltz home to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Camptown to set up a highly anticipated final against Alpha United next Sunday at the same venue.
Camptown players attacked from the onset and surged ahead after right-winger accurate cross found the boot of Allistair Butters who drove the ball past the Conquerors’ custodian.
Conquerors retaliated with several raids to Camptown’s goal but had their efforts thwarted by solid defensive tactics from their opponents. It took the dapper Primo to break the monotony, which he did in grand style from a perfect cross from Eon Allen, to equalize the score.
Conquerors player, Paul Babb, had the perfect opportunity to regain the advantage but muffed up a free kick less than 100 yards from the goal. Conquerors received another opportunity to make amends but a free kick from their midfielder slammed into the goalpost and rebounded into play.
Once again, it was Primo who salvaged some pride for his team, blasting the rebound past the keeper. Shortly afterwards, Camptown defence breached the rules resulting in a penalty kick against them which sealed the issue.
In the other semi-final match, Kelwin Chapman tucked in a goal at 18 minutes into the first half and Kelston Lamott emulated his feat 20 minutes into the second half to propel Alpha United to a victory and a spot in the final against Conquerors.
Football fans are definitely in for a treat should these two teams duplicate their semi-finals performance. (Michael Benjamin)
