– as tour winds down for both athletesKelvin Johnson and Lionel D’Andrade continued their rich vein of form with the former winning the Kiss 5km road race in Tobago and the latter claiming the Mango Tree Production 6km run in Trinidad on Saturday.
Johnson clocked 18:02 seconds ahead of Kliffton Sylvestor’s 22:23 and Devery Robbey’s 22:35 to win his race while D’Andrade won in 15:35 in front of Trinidad’s Curtis Cox (16:00) and Elvis Turner (16:22).
D’Andrade told Kaieteur Sport yesterday that he ran a comfortable race without inflicting any personal pressure to turn in a face time. He said that he does not want to be exhausted when he returns for the South American 10k.
“I didn’t really run hard. I just relaxed. It was my second to last 5k before I come home for the South American 10k,” D’Andrade informed, adding that he will, however, go full throttle for his last race on Sunday.
Speaking to this newspaper briefly, Johnson said that he is satisfied with his performance on the island and he is set to return to Guyana tomorrow to continue preparations for the marquee South American 10k race. (Edison Jefford)
