On Friday, with a simple ceremony held at the Kings Plaza Hotel, Guyana Fashion Weekend Chief Executive Officer Sonia Noel received two sizable cheques from sponsors King’s Jewellery World and the L’Oreal Cosmetic Line.
Receiving the cheques on behalf of the GFW team, Noel expressed her gratitude, noting that the cash would go a far way into making the GFW Red Carpet event the ‘dream feature’ she intends it to become.
Noel noted that, so far, preparations are going well, and while all involved are excited, it is guaranteed that this year around the event will be bigger and even more spectacular.
The Guyana Fashion Weekend, which is billed for three days from October 3, is now slated for the GCC Cricket Ground, Bourda.
Noel said that all three nights are being sponsored by separate entities, which will be branded on their respective show nights.
The first night, according to Noel, would be sponsored by King’s Jewellery World, while L’Oreal Cosmetics Line is sponsoring the second night. COPS Security Service is the proud sponsor of the final night of the spectacular local and foreign fashion.
Noel further stated that the venue, the GCC Ground, will be transformed to the extent that patrons will hardly remember they are seated in a cricket ground. She added that the tone of the event will be sensed the minute ‘patrons hit the gate’, ensuring they receive their ‘money’s worth’ in fashion.
L’Oreal’ s Suzette Shim said that last year the GFW was the largest calendar event, and she expressed the hope that this year around it would ‘be bigger and better’.
Ralph Persaud, Manager of King’s Jewellery World, said that his entity is creating new jewellery designs especially for the event, and there will be a giveaway for the best dressed male and female attending the event. While the female winner will receive jewellery, the male will be given another special prize.
Yesterday, at the City Mall, Sonia Noel hosted the ‘Models Promotion,’ which saw models posing as mannequins in various designs and strutting various fashions.
At that event, ten persons won free tickets and free designs to the event by pulling a red rose from a vase and claiming whatever prize was written in a booklet attached to the stem of the flower.
The GFW will be opened with a church service today ahead of the October 3 launch.
